Friday in Honors

On Friday we:
  • Worked on leaf coloring
  • Set up the leaf transpiration lab- due at the end Monday- you will have time to work on the calculations most of the class period

Wednesday

On Day three in Honors we:
  • Turned in our flower and seed dissection lab to the box
  • Took notes on roots and stems
  • Watched part of "Private life of plants-putting down roots"

For Friday, be prepared to go outside for a little bit (i.e. don't wear high heels, have a sweatshirt handy...we will only be outside for 20 min max)

Tuesday

In Honors Bio on Tuesday we:
  • Stamped the flower coloring on our assignment logs
  • Turned in the moss and fern investigation lab to the box
  • Worked on the Flower and Seed dissection lab (see Ms. H, this needs to be made up after school this week due to the perishable nature of the materials)
  • Please read 23-4 and 23-5 for Wednesday.

On Monday in Honors we:

Kept working on our Moss and Fern Life Cycle lab-due in the box at the end
I passed out the flower coloring- due tomorrow

YAY! Here are some extra credit opportunities.
If you have a current A or B: go to www.ted.com and watch one of the following lectures:
1. Michael Pollan gives a plants-eye view
2. E.O. Wilson on saving life on Earth
3. James Watson on discovering DNA
4. Deborah Gordon: How do ants know what to do?
Write a one-page response including examples from the lecture that will demonstrate to me how this information has enriched your views on Biology and life as we've learned it.

If you have a current C, D, or F: Complete "The Great Plant Escape" assignment and return to me.

BOTH extra credit assignments are due by no later than May 2nd.

Friday

On Friday we used the little bit of time we had to work on the moss and fern life cycle lab. This will be due at the end of the period on Monday.

On Monday we will do the fern section (part 2) of the lab.

Day 3 in honors

Day 3 in honors we started the moss and fern life cycle lab. If you miss Friday, plan to spend a little bit of time after school on Monday (20-30 min) to finish up.

Monday 4-14

Today in honors bio we:
- got back science fair documents graded
-got back formal lab reports (milk bacteria lab) graded

Skim Ch. 24 for tomorrow

Took "plant intro" notes- concept map form. See a friend to get the notes, big maps will be in the make-up work bin.

Science Fair Results

Jon Haas: third place ribbon
Chelsea Lindemulder: third place ribbon
Glynis Bawden: Second Place Ribbon
Bessie Ish: 1st place ribbon and trophy, scholarship to Ohio Wesleyan University!


GREAT job to all who participated! It was a nice trip even though our hotel was a little iffy. Jon watched the discovery channel all night before the fair to prepare...or just to relax!

Wednesday

Today we took the micro test: Bacteria, Virsuses and Protists

If you need to make this up, see me to set up a time before school or after school. The test will take you about 45 minutes.
