Tuesday in Honors

Tuesday in honors we:
  • Took notes on muscles and bones
  • Had a little refresher course about math relating to torque, forces and levers
  • Did the muscle and bone attachment lab (will finish the first 15 minutes of class on Wed. hopefully that is all the time we will need!!!)
  • Reminder: Individual packets due on Friday in binders or folders, good work, complete sentences, not messy.
  • Reminder: Please read chapter 36-1 and 36-2 by Wednesday

Day 1 in honors

Today we started our presentations on the animal phyla. These will resume on Wednesday. Tuesday we will be dissecting earthworms, so please complete the earthworm prep work before class on Wed.

Write a one-page response including examples from the lecture that will demonstrate to me how this information has enriched your views on Biology and life as we've learned it.

GREAT job to all who participated! It was a nice trip even though our hotel was a little iffy. Jon watched the discovery channel all night before the fair to prepare...or just to relax!

Mon, Tue, Wed

The first three days in class this week we worked on our milk lab. On Monday we took data and then worked on learning how to determine if bacteria are gram + or gram -. On Tuesday we took the whole class period staining our bacterial sample. It was really messy and some kids are still stained with crystal violet (can't say I didn't warn ya!).

On Wednesday we presented our data to the class. Use this data and the new modified formal lab rubric to put together a formal lab write up, due next Friday!

Test for you guys on Wednesday. I passed out a test review-see make-up work box.

On Friday we took the Chapter 19-20 Vocab quiz. See me to schedule a make-up time before/after school or duing advisory. It will take about 20 min.

We aslo stamped the HIV coloring and turned in the vocab assignment to the box.

Collected data on plates growing bacteria and milk temp/level of coagulation.

On Wednesday we:
Took our third day of data for the milk bacteria lab
Innoculated plates with bacterial growth from the milk AND chose a special place to swab and innoculate from the school building (drains, sinks, Senor's microwave)
Bacteria are growing and hopefully we will have colonies by Friday.

Applications for honors science next year (again, see Ms. H)
